I thought this movie was okay. It was my first Miyazaki movie and really one of my favorite animations. I think that overall it was a beautiful movie and looked awesome but the story was eh. I think maybe that was the point but the images were so overpoweringly good like every time there was that fire it just looked so good. So i think that helps you look past the bad story.
The deeper meanings of this movie are so fun though. When Mahito hit himself in the head with the rock it symbolized me of when some people cut their wrist or purposely hurt themselves. It helped him deal with his reality and truly made him feel something. It also was a nice turning point in the movie and everything just got weird and sort of hard to understand from there. The storyline was so confusing. I think it was good in the beginning as well as the flashbacks were cool but after that it was all over the place. I think the fire scene was awesome in the beginning. But the whole mom and aunt think is so weird. Mahitos father really “kept it in the bloodline”. And Mahito is obviously still grieving but now you tell him that his aunt is now his mom and his dad already got her pregnant? That was probably crazy bad on his mindset and to make it worse his aunt-mom is all happy about it and makes him feel super uncomfortable. Then things just went super hard to understand for me. When did the Heron go from bad guy to good guy? Or what was the point of introducing those little white floaty guys but that didn’t tie into the end? And what was the ending? It was like he made it back and the grandma doll turned into the grandma but what about the brick he brought back? And what happened to that wooden sword? Was that whole interact real or fake? What does that part even mean??? And how is the rock controlling the Great Grandfathers fate? I just left with so many questions.

This was a surprisingly good watch. It was actually a documentary on Steph Curry’s basketball career. I thought I knew most if not all of that information but apparently not. He made 2 game winners in his Junior year to advance Davidson to the sweet 16 and the elite 8. He is also still the record holder for most 3 pointers ever made.
This documentary was honestly very well put together. We never have a strong timeline because of all the flashbacks t uses but it incorporates them really well. For example he went through a rough patch of shooting in college and then flash-forward he did in the NBA as well. They also use a lot of good speakers to tell the story, mostly his head coach from Davidson, Bobby McKillop. Overall this was a solid movie and if you like basketball I would definitely recommend. This was a solid 8/10. I think John Wick movies are use so good. the action is so fun to watch and they always come up with different ways to kill people. I think they’re kind of running out of ideas though. I think the cinematography and camera work i always pretty solid.
The movies are a bit rushed as well. Thy need to just relax and take their time on a movi. Use one idea and just elaborate on it. Like give backstory and complete the Tory in the end. NO CLIFHANGERS. Overhyped movie. Star Wars is just too hard of a franchise to duplicate. I was expecting some bang bang bang action movie but it was kind of just chill. I think it reminded me a lot of Rouge One but not as much laser battles. The characters were well casted and they definitely nailed the woman lead compared to Rey.
I did like the vibe of this movie though. The opening scenes are this darker but calm town and cool landscapes. Also the first fight scene was super well filmed. The slowed up Eid of an axe being thrown through the air is such a cool shot to me. I wouldn’t say it’s overrated or underrated but with all of the “rated r” talk i heard I assumed it would be action packed cutting off someone’s hand. Mank is a new experience for me. It was another jut blah movie and didn’t o much good for me. I liked the black and white of the film but nothing in this movie really resounded with me. In all of Finchers other movies that I’ve watched I’ve had a scene standout to me or interest me but nothing in this one. Maybe I was just really tired watching this but I don’t know.
The 1930s era didn’t help me at all. Movies elevating that era just aren’t appeasing. If I had to choose one thing positive about this movie it would probably be the character realization Mank has. It shows his struggles to become a name in Hollywood but also his different mindset from society. Also I thought the Citizen Kane was a well needed character in this story too. This movie was so eh. Just eh. It was such a boring plot. I didn’t like how there was no backstory, all we got was this guy was assigned to kill a powerful person and missed. Then he had a random wife who got hurt because of it. And then he randomly has these safe houses all over the world even though he lives nowhere near there and has all type of licenses plates and guns and things. And he basically just kills people. Okay. Cool I guess. I needed a little more forewarning of what was at stake or just backstory.
It did have some cool moments. I like the shot of in the beginning it is switching from a view of him looking through a binocular lens while listening to music and you can faintly hear the music coming from the headphones with this view. But then once the view switched to his subjective angle, through the lens, the music is loud volume like you’re actually him listening to the music. I liked the repetition of words they used. “Anticipate don’t improvise” is such a good line. Fincher also portrayed the main character as such a detail oriented person in a way that made some parts so cool. For example when he goes into this guys office instead of just blowing the dudes head off he uses a nail guy at close range right to his chest. Which slows make his lungs start to fill with blood but not getting blood all over the room. Top tier movie. This movie is easily on my top 10. It had such good storyline and plot. My favorite thing about this movie was my switching in who to want to win. When you watch a movie a lot of your understanding is based of your personal bias. And throughout the movie m opinion changed and changed. The plot twists and flashbacks are just so top tier.
Amy is freaking brutal. The sex scene where she slit the guys throat is just. Makes me want to puke my eyeballs out but i can’t not watch. Fincher just perfected this movie. The camera work and different shots were so well blended together. And the symmetry in shots is PERFECT. I loved this movie This movie was actually really good. Something about that time era of movies was so good. I think this is a top 5 movie for me. I forgot about this movie and it was sort of nostalgic. I think this movie could’ve just been some silly and fun movie but they made it serious and had great character development.
I think that I will easily be able to recognize Fincher style in this and the movies that I will watch. He has a very fast paced style with flashbacks and big plot twists. Although this movie was just a backstory and was a true story, he twists it into an amazing story. This movie is eh. Just ehhhh. I like the introduction of Harry Potter and the wizardry world. I just don’t think it’s anywhere near the best Harry Potter movie. It’s just nostalgic to me. I watched this movie a bunch of times as a kid and it hasn’t truly gotten old.
I am also watching this movie series because if you watch one of the Harry Potter series movie every Sunday, starting today, you’ll finish n Christmas Eve. Harry Potter seems like such a winter time series to me too. This is probably because as a kid i hated going out in the cold and would stay inside and watch movie or play Skylanders. Such a good movie. I don't really love gory movies like that, but the opening scene was so good. He breaks into some castle and it's a huge fight scene and at one point he pushes a gun into this guys eye, then shoots the guy behind him through the first guys head. It was a crazy scene.
I think I also liked it because of the plot too. It was kind of like one of the John Wicks, a corrupt guy who finally cooled down and started living a real live then went back to his old ways in order to protect the people he now cares and loves for. |
